Free Knit Sock Pattern

Knit 1 below Socks

This is an easy to knit sock pattern, with just a 2 row pattern repeat. It features a Dutch heel, and a star toe.

You will need 100 grams of sock yarn.
A set of 5 size 1 DPN

K1b can means knit one below, To knit one below you knit right into the center of the knit stitch below the first stitch on the left hand needle. Then you let the stitch above it slide off as you finish the knit stitch

Cast on 64 sts. Divide evenly onto 4 DPN. You will have 16 stitches on each needle.
Cuff
Round 1: *k2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.
Round 2: *Skip 1 st and knit the 2nd st, then knit the skipped st, then slip both sts from the needle together; p2, repeat from * to the end of rnd.
Repeat Rnds 1 & 2 for 1 inch.

Leg
Round 1: k1, k1b
Round 2: k1b, k1
Repeat Rounds 1 & 2 until sock measures 6 inches from the beginning of the sock.

Heel
Working on 32 heel sts only, leaving remaining instep sts on hold.
Row 1: *Sl 1, k1, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 2: Sl 1, purl to end of row
Row 3: Sl1, *Sl 1, k1, repeat from * to the last 2 sts, k2.
Row 4: Sl 1, purl to end of row.
Repeat rows 1 - 4 a total of 8 times.

Gusset
Round 1: With needle 1 knit across heel flap. Pick up and knit 17 sts from the side of the heel flap. Knit across instep sts in pattern. With the 4th needle pickup and knit 17 sts from opposite side of heel flap. Knit across 16 sts on needle 1.
You will have 33 sts on needle 1, 16 sts on needle 2, and 16 sts on needle 3, 33 sts on needle 4.
Round 2: knit across all sts on needle 1 until the last 2 sts, ssk. Knit in pattern on needle 2 & 3. on needle 4, k2tog, then knit the stitches until the end of round.
Round 3: knit all sts on needle 1, knit in pattern on needle 2 & 3, knit all stitches on needle 4.
Repeat Rounds 2 & 3 until 64 sts remain. You will have 16 stitches on each needle.

Foot
Continue knitting foot in pattern, until it measures 2" less then the desired length. knit in stockinette stitch on needles 1 & 4. Knit in pattern on needles 2 & 3.

Star Toe
Round 1: knit tog the last 2 sts on every needle.
Round 2: work even without decreasing. Work these 2 rounds 6 times. Then work Round 1, every round until there are 8 sts remaining. Using a tapestry needle, draw the yarn, through the stitches and pull tight.
Break yarn, and weave in all ends. Block lightly if desired.
