Basic Knit Sock Pattern
This sock is knit from the top down, on size 1 DPN’s. It features a 2 x 2 ribbed cuff, a Dutch heel, and a Classic toe.
Materials: 100 grams of fingering weight sock yarn.
A set of 5 size 1 DPN’s
Gauge 10 stitches per inch
Cast on 64 stitches, divide stitches evenly onto 4 DPN. You will have 16 stitches on each needle.
Begin knitting a Knit 2, Purl 2 ribbing. Knit 15 rows of ribbing.
Start the body of the sock.
Knit every stitch around, on every round until the sock measures 6 inches from the top of the sock.
Dutch Heel
Working on 32 sts only. Put the remaining stitches on hold. Just leave them on the needles that they are already on.
Row 1: *sl 1, k1, repeat from * to the end of the row.
Row 2: Sl 1, purl to the end of the row.
Row 3: Sl 1, *Sl 1, k1 repeat from * to the last 2 sts, k2
Row 4: Sl 1, purl to the end of the row.
Repeat Rows 1 – 4, until you have completed 32 rows.
Turn Heel
Row 1: k21, SSK, turn
Row 2: Sl 1, p 10, p 2tog, turn
Row 3: Sl 1, k 10, SSK, turn
Row 4: Sl1, p10, p2tog, turn
Repeat Rows 3, and 4 until 12 stitches remain.
Gusset
Round 1: working with needle 1, knit across the heel flap. Pick up and knit 17 stitches from the side of the heel flap. Knit across needles 2 and 3. With needle 4 pick up and knit 17 stitches from the opposite side of the heel flap. Then knit 6 stitches from Needle 1.
You should have 23 stitches on needle 1, 16 stitches on needle 2, 16 stitches on needle 3, 23 stitches on needle 4.
Round 2: on needle 1 knit to the last 3 stitches, then k2tog, k1. on needles 2 and 3 knit all stitches. On needle 4 k1, SSK, knit to the end of needle.
Round 3: knit all stitches.
Repeat Rounds 2 and 3 until you have 16 stitches on each needle. For a total of 64 stitches.
Foot
Knit every round in the foot until it measures 2” short of your foot length.
Classic Toe
Round 1: needle 1 knit to the last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1. on needle 2 k1, SSK, knit remaining stitches. On needle 3knit to last 3 stitches k2tog, k1. On needle 4 knit 1, SSK, knit remaining stitches.
Round 2: Knit even on all four needles.
Repeat these 2 rounds until 32 stitches remain. then work a decrease round every round until 16 stitches remain.
Graft toe with the kitchener stitch.
weave in ends.
Block lightly.
